چکیده
Abstract Background Postvaccination acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) may develop 2–30 days after vaccination. However, ADEM following pneumococcal vaccination has never been reported. Case presentation We report a 73‐year‐old woman with She developed fever and consciousness disturbance 17 the second administration of 23‐valent polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV23). Head magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed numerous T2‐high lesions, mainly involving cerebral cerebellar white matter brainstem. Cerebrospinal fluid examination showed polymorphonuclear pleocytosis markedly elevated interleukin‐6 (58,400 pg/ml). Her symptoms MRI lesions were promptly resolved by steroid pulse therapy, no relapse. Conclusion Although PPSV23 is recommended for elderly individuals, this case highlights risk caused unexpected immune activation repeated vaccine.

متن کاملAcute disseminated encephalomyelitis following seasonal influenza vaccination in an elderly patient.
Although such occurrences are rare, it should be recognized that certain vaccines might trigger serious neurological immune phenomena such as Guillain-Barre syndrome, seizures, cranial neuropathy, and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM). Here we report on an elderly woman with ADEM following seasonal influenza vaccination who recovered after plasma exchange.

Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is an inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system that typically follows an infection or vaccination and has a favorable long-term prognosis. We describe the first reported case of ADEM after vaccination against novel influenza A (H1N1). A previously healthy 34-month-old boy who developed ADEM presented with a seizure and left-sid...
متن کاملAcute disseminated encephalomyelitis following Influenza A pneumonia
Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM) is an autoimmune demyelinating disorder of the central nervous system and can present following influenza A infections as multifocal neurological deficits. ADEM remains a challenging diagnosis, and high clinical suspicious coupled with laboratory investigations and neuroimaging is required to exclude other primary and secondary demyelinating disorders.
